In this outspoken biography, the life, art, and
experiences of Guðmundur Guðmundsson, better
known as Erró, are deconstructed by the artist
himself and many of his personal friends,
rivals, and contemporaries in the art world.
Born in a small town in Iceland in the 1930És,
Erró discovered his muse and followed the siren
call of his art to study and work in such places
as Florence, Paris, New York, and Moscow,
meeting and interacting with many of the best
known artists of the time and celebrities such
as Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí, and Fidel Castro,
to name but a few. Over the course of his
career, Erró was and remains a prolific,
imaginative, and often controversial artist, a
citizen of the world but always an Icelander at
heart.
Like a modern-day Odyssey, this story
recounts the adventures of a young artist from a
far-flung island in the colourful world of
modern, international art, replete with its own
gods and giants, perils, pitfalls, seductresses,
and successes.
